July 2020: Meet Emily
This month, I want to share the story of a client. While I cherish all my clients, this one has a special story. She was an individual I met sometime before she ever hired me as an attorney. Meet Emily.
I first met Emily when I received my kidney. I was in the hospital and so was she. Doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her. We got to know one another and my wife and I would periodically visit her to see how she was doing.
Finally, doctors diagnosed her condition. She had Lyme disease — a debilitating disease that comes with many different symptoms including fever, fatigue, aches, pains, and much more. The disease sapped Emily’s energy, and there were times she didn’t have the strength to walk.
After her diagnosis, Emily was able to get the symptoms under control, but the disease is something that will remain with her for the rest of her life. However, as she began down the road to recovery, she was brought back into my life in a way I never expected. It was an instance of God placing people into each other’s lives for a reason. Here is her story:
In June 2019, I was involved in a car crash. The other car T-boned my car and the accident left me with a broken hip. As it happened, we already knew an attorney — Scott! My mom had actually been friends with him for a while — they met on Volunteer McKinney where they were both on the board of directors at the time.
Right after the accident, I was scared and shaken up. I didn’t know what was going to happen next or how I would get through it. Scott walked me through everything and helped me feel calm. He was always there to answer questions and always kept me and my family in the loop.
When I was in the hospital, I posted a picture relating to the accident on social media. Thankfully, Scott caught it and told me it would be a good idea to take it down. I didn’t know it at the time, but insurance companies will look at your social media account and will use them against you if they can…
