Bicycle Accident Injury Lawyer
I don’t let my 13-year-old ride around our neighborhood on her bike without Sara or me by her side…period. There are lots of other 13-year-olds that ride around on their bikes without their parents, but not mine. As a personal injury attorney, my firm often handles cases that involve a bicycle accident injury. Sometimes, having a dad that is a personal injury attorney has its drawbacks – which will come up in future blogs, no doubt.
Why can’t I ride my bike with my friends???
Because you don’t pay enough attention, but more importantly, the people that go flying down our residential road like a bat out of hell REALLY don’t pay enough attention.
Just the other day, I watched a little sedan come flying down our street while I was out grabbing the mail. This person never saw me. I know that because as she drove by at no doubt 50mph, I saw her texting…with both hands…on her phone while looking down. She then went on to hit the curb and barely avoid taking out a stop sign. She then gunned it around the corner, where I could again see her looking down at her phone.
Despite the number of close calls, no one seems to learn their lesson until they hurt someone, including bicyclists.
In 2017, 738 bicyclists were killed by automobiles on American streets, accounting for 2.1% of all traffic fatalities. This statistic is simply unacceptable. Bicyclists are incredibly vulnerable on the roads and despite taking all of the appropriate steps, such as:
- Wearing high-visibility clothing, especially at night;
- Making sure their bikes have reflectors;
- Wearing helmets;
- Not allowing themselves to be distracted.
Head Injuries in Bicycle Accidents
Head injuries are always a significant worry in bicycle accidents involving autos because conventional bike helmets aren’t necessarily the strongest. If you were involved in one of these accidents, it is vital to get checked out by a medical professional to make sure you are clear of injuries. These injuries can occur from the direct impact with a motor vehicle, striking the ground, or striking some other object as you fall.
If you are worried about having suffered a possible traumatic brain injury (“TBI”), some symptoms include:
- Headache
- Nausea/dizziness
- Loss of motor function
- Puking
- Insomnia
- Irritability
- Blurred or lost vision
- Issues processing thoughts
- Memory loss
- Unconsciousness
If you would like to learn more about traumatic brain injury, see our blog, Diagnosing TBI.
Spinal Cord Injuries in Bicycle Accidents
Spinal cord injuries are also very common in bicycle accidents and most bicyclists have no form of body protection, so it leaves room for more severe injuries. If you are worried that you may have suffered a spinal cord injury from a bicycle accident, some common symptoms are:
- Paralysis
- Loss of sensation
- Loss of bowel or bladder control
- Exaggerated reflexes and spasms
- Changes in sexual function and feeling, as well as fertility
- Extreme back pain or pressure in back, head or neck
- Numbness or tingling in limbs
- Impaired breathing
- Oddly twisted neck or head
Other Common Injuries We See In Bicycle Accidents
Other common injuries we see in these bicycle accidents include:
- Broken bones
- Damaged/punctured organs
- Loss of limbs

- If we can potentially help you, we will schedule a Free Strategy Session
There is zero obligation. We want all injury victims to understand their rights and the process.
After your Free Strategy Session, you will understand where insurance companies can set traps for you and what needs to be done to avoid these traps. You will also understand the personal injury process as well as how we can help, or if you need the help of an attorney. The strategy session typically will have one of three outcomes. You:

- Decide to think about it, and we will be available to answer your questions.
- Say, “I’ve got this,” and decide you do not need an attorney.
Again, there is zero obligation and you will be informed and understand your rights and the process. We want to arm you with knowledge to avoid the traps insurance companies set to harm your claim.
